Conservative of the Week: Bishop Fred Henry
Age: 72
Claim to Fame: 7th and current Catholic Bishop of the diocese of Calgary, in the province of Alberta, Canada.
Why He's the Conservative of the Week: for refusing to apologize after criticizing new LGBTQ guidelines for Alberta schools. After calling the guidelines 'madness' and 'totalitarian' the bishop was met with harsh criticism by Canada's Godless Gay Mafia along with their cohorts in the 'progressive' media. Yet Henry has admirably refused to back down, stating clearly that he 'will not retract' his remarks. Bishop Henry also noted that 'only God can judge the human soul', but it is 'pure nonsense' to state that 'human behavior cannot and should not be judged'. The Alberta Education minister has a meeting scheduled within the next coming weeks with Catholic leaders to discuss the guidelines, which must be implemented in all Catholic schools by the end of March.

Trumpless Debate Earns Higher Ratings Than Last GOP Debate That Included Trump
Townhall.com:
That headline is technically accurate: Last night's Trump-free Fox News forum pulled in roughly 12-13 million viewers, better than the 11 million or so who watched the Fox Business debate earlier this month, at which The Donald stood center stage. Trump out, ratings up! Well, sort of.RELATED: Megyn Kelly Just Did Trump’s Dirty Work for Him
The Des Moines debate was still the second-least watched GOP debate of the cycle (maybe third-least, including online live streams), and many Trump fans -- suddenly highly interested in nuance in context -- are pointing out that the lowest-rated one aired on FBN, which has a smaller footprint than Fox News or CNN nationwide.
True enough, although FBN's November debate rated higher than three others, suggesting that viewership for these events has declined over time, with and without Trump. To wit: The Donald's social media army trying to pit last night's numbers (which dwarfed CNN and MSNBC's combined coverage of the billionaire's counter-programming rally) against Fox's August ratings bonanza, which is a ridiculous comparison.
Fox and CNN's first debates garnered truly massive audiences, then each network experienced a drop-off of millions of viewers in its subsequent debate, as did Fox Business. TV Line probably has the most evenhanded headline I've seen, characterizing the ratings as "steady' in Trump's absence.
The Trump campaign hilariously predicted that just "one or two million" Americans would tune into last night's proceedings. Oops. What's undoubtedly clear is that the current cycle's Republican debates are attracting much more attention than they did in 2012:
Canadian Parents Who Beat Daughter for Sending Nude Photos Convicted
Mediaite.com:
Two people in British Columbia have been found guilty of assault with a weapon after severely beating their daughter as a punishment for sending nude photos over the Internet. They claim that she consented to the corporal punishment when given the choice between that and a grounding.
The Toronto Sun reports that the father used a small hockey stick to strike the 14-year-old over her pajama pants two or three times and the mother used a jump rope to do the same. She appeared at school the next day with lacerations and bruises, prompting her friends to tell administrators. The school then brought it to the attention of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The father testified that he was unaware using corporal punishment was against Canadian law. He had been using “the rod” to punish his child, as advocated by the Christian Bible. This all troubled Judge Edmond de Walle, who concluded that the teen could not have consented to such a forceful punishment.
“The parents took no educative or corrective steps by seeking out expert help or any other assistance to discuss their daughter’s actions with her. Their actions were solely punitive and not corrective,” he said, though he maintained that he was not saying they should not have taken issue with her sending the photos.
OK, normally in these uber-liberal times I'd side with a parents right discipline their kids however they want. But using a 'small hockey stick' and 'jump rope' to beat your kids?!? That's just excessive. I mean, what happened to a good 'ol belt?
Texas Court Rules In Favor Of Bible Cheerleaders
WaPo.com:
The Texas Supreme Court ruled Friday in favor of high school cheerleaders who had argued that their free speech was trampled by their school district when it ordered them not to display banners emblazoned with Bible verses at football games.
The court acknowledged in its opinion that the Kountze school district, about 95 miles northeast of Houston, later allowed the banners. But the justices determined their ruling was necessary to protect the future display of religious-themed signs because the district has argued it retains the right to restrict them.
The banners carried various Biblical verses such as, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”
The lawsuit now returns to the appeals court that ruled in 2014 that the cheerleaders’ lawsuit was moot because of the district’s policy change.RELATED: Public hearing draws criticism of “religious freedom” bill
Hiram Sasser, deputy chief counsel for the Texas-based Liberty Institute, a law firm that specializes in issues of religious liberty and represented the cheerleaders, said the question now becomes whether the school district will continue the fight.
“Are they going to continue to bleed taxpayer money to fight for the right to censor religious speech?” Sasser asked.
Thomas Brandt, an attorney representing the school district, did not return a call for comment Friday.

Meet the 20-Year-Old Norwegian Woman Who Identifies As a Cat
Mediaite.com:
In a recent interview with Norweigen radio channel NRK P3, a 20-year-old woman says she identifies as a cat.RELATED: There Is No Such Thing as 'Transgendered'
The woman, who goes only by Nano, says she’s been a cat her entire life. “I realized I was a cat when I was 16 when doctors and psychologists found out what was ‘the thing’ with me. Under my birth there was a genetic defect.”
Since coming out as “born in the wrong species,” Nano hisses at dogs she walks past, meows at strangers, hates water, and claims to be able to see in the dark. She also walks around on all fours and sleeps on windowsills.
“My psychologist told me I can grow out of it, but I doubt it,” she says. “I think I will be cat all my life.”Nano is the first person to publicly identify as a cat, although Fox’s Andrea Tantaros received criticism for joking about doing so after Caitlyn Jenner‘s transition to a woman.
Drunk Driving Killer Ethan Couch Drops Extradition Appeal; Returns to the U.S.
AP.org:
The teenager who used an "affluenza" defense in a fatal drunken-driving wreck was booked into a Texas juvenile detention center following his deportation from Mexico on Thursday, more than a month after he and his mother fled the U.S. as prosecutors investigated whether he had violated his probation.RELATED: The Worst Parents Ever
Ethan Couch, 18, arrived at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport late Thursday morning and could be seen walking through the airport escorted by law enforcement. Couch and his mother were apprehended in the Mexican resort city of Puerto Vallarta on Dec. 28, after a call for pizza delivery tipped off authorities to their whereabouts.
Couch initially fought deportation, but he dropped the fight this week. His mother was deported last month.
"We've reached a great milestone," Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson said outside the juvenile facility in Fort Worth. "This is a day we've looked forward to, when we have them both here and back under the jurisdiction here. We're hoping that the day comes for justice for the families and the four victims that were killed."
Couch is scheduled for a court hearing Friday where a judge could decide to move him to an adult jail, which Anderson said he would support given the severity of Couch's offenses. Couch also faces a hearing on Feb. 19 to determine whether his case will be transferred to the adult system, where he could face more time behind bars.
"He's certainly capable of understanding now what's going on, and I'd feel better if he was there (in an adult jail)," Anderson said.
Is Marco Rubio Starting To Move Up In Iowa?
HotAir.com:
Yesterday’s Monmouth poll, which had Rubio in third place with 16 percent, was newsy because those were his best numbers in any Iowa poll since early December. Smoking-gun proof that Rubio’s on the move as late-deciders get serious! Just one problem: 16 percent was actually a point less than what he polled in the last Monmouth survey. He’d actually declined slightly over the past seven weeks. Even good news comes with bad news for Rubio these days.RELATED: It’s Rubio Or Bust For Republicans Who Want To Win
Until now:
That’s strikingly similar to Monmouth’s results, with Trump exactly seven points ahead of Cruz and Cruz exactly seven points ahead of Rubio. (In fact, the last poll of Iowa before these two also had Trump by seven over Cruz.) What’s different is the trend line for Rubio. Less than three weeks ago, the last time WSJ/NBC polled Iowa, he was at 13 percent. He’s climbed five points in that time. Trump, meanwhile, has climbed eight while Cruz has dropped three. That Trump’s support is increasing while Cruz’s has slipped a bit seems indisputable given the last few polls. What WSJ/NBC is suggesting here is that there may be another trend quietly happening — namely, Rubio building momentum as he campaigns intensively in Iowa over the final week. He’s going to go all-out to try to destroy Cruz tonight at the debate too, knowing that if he can damage Cruz enough to make Iowa a battle for second place between them rather than a battle for first between Trump and Cruz, Rubio will be exactly where he wants to be before New Hampshire. Instead of the young star who underperformed, he’ll be the “surprisingly strong” center-righty who suddenly looks primed for a long race with Trump and Cruz. It’s only one poll but it’s the best news Rubio fans have had in months.
Want more evidence that Rubio is threatening in Iowa? Well, at this point you’d think Cruz would be throwing everything he has at Trump to try to win the caucuses. But he isn’t. He just released a new ad in Iowa targeting — ta da — Marco Rubio:
Just as striking, Mr. Cruz’s campaign quietly began running an ad in Iowa Thursday targeting Mr. Rubio over his support of “amnesty” for undocumented immigrants.Showing images of Mr. Rubio standing with the so-called Gang of Eight senators who wrote the 2013 immigration overhaul, the spot features a clip from Rush Limbaugh explaining that the Florida senator was a part of that group while Mr. Cruz was not.The ad, which Mr. Cruz’s campaign did not release to the media, also flashes a message on screen: “Rubio betrayed our trust.”

Ten Years Ago Today Al Gore Said The World Would End Because of Climate Change
Townhall.com:
Watch out world, and we are sorry if you had not realised before reading this, the world is ending today. That’s because today is the day that climate change entrepreneur, and former US Vice President, Al Gore warned us would be the beginning of a global emergency.Thank goodness Bush won Florida in 2008.
Mr Gore told his supporters a decade ago that the world had until 27th January 2016 to end its addiction to fossil fuels or the it would come to an end. Gore did not specify what householders might expect to happen today, but he was clear that this would be the end.
The claim was part of the marketing campaign for his hit documentary “An Inconvenient Truth", which he maintains was not a cheap attempt to make money off the green frenzy. Although, by sheer coincidence, it did make him a pile of cash.
Shortly before the film’s release Gore warned today would see "a true planetary emergency." Once again, he offered few details of the problems you might face on your weekly visit to Walmart.
He went on to tell the press: "If you accept the truth of that, then nothing else really matters that much… We have to organize quickly to come up with a coherent and really strong response, and that's what I'm devoting myself to."
Townhall would always warn readers in advance of any impending emergency but on this occasion we feel confident you need not stock up on canned beans. Gore has been making the same claim every week for the past ten years… Which has led us to believe his grim predictions might well be unfounded.

Donald Trump Claims He Won't Attend Thursday Night FOX Debate
WaPo.com:
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump abruptly announced here Tuesday that he would not participate in Thursday’s scheduled debate, escalating his off-and-on feud with Fox News Channel and throwing the GOP campaign into turmoil.
Trump’s assertion, which his campaign manager insisted was irreversible, came less than one week before the kickoff Iowa caucuses. He once again defied the conventional rules of politics, and used his power and prominence to shape the campaign agenda and conversation.
So far, Trump’s untraditional moves have only expanded his support, but his threatened boycott leaves him open to criticism that for all his tough talk he is ducking face-to-face confrontations with his opponents and scrutiny from the Fox moderators.Given Trump’s past flirtations with boycotting Fox, many will doubt his declaration until they see the other candidates take the debate stage on Thursday night without him.
The Republican debates have become must-see television, in part because of the allure of Trump’s star power and unpredictable candidacy. But he said Tuesday that he thinks Fox and other television networks have been taking advantage of him by selling advertisements for their debates at a high premium.
Corny as it sounds, there is still an argument to be said for how Trump expects to be president when he can't even take on the likes of Megyn Kelly. Then too, a no-show is not only hypocritical, but a slap in the face to Iowans by and large.

Martin Luther King Jr. Not Politically Correct Enough For University of Oregon
Mediaite.com:
Student leaders at the University of Oregon debated removing a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. from its student center, arguing that the quote was not inclusive enough for modern understandings of diversity.Indeed. tranny is not only the new 'Black', but now it beats it (now that was quick). Geez, where's Al Sharpton when you really need him???
Oregon’s Erb Memorial Union, which is currently under renovation, had the following famous King quote on the wall: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. I have a dream…”
But as renovation continues, the Oregon Student Union seriously considered replacing that quote. “The quote is not going to change,” reports student paper Oregon Daily Emerald, “but that decision was not made without some hard thought by the Student Union Board.”
When the student union considered the question, some students asked, “Does the MLK quote represent us today?” The problem wasn’t so much the message, but the fact that it only focused on racial diversity instead of gender identity.“Diversity is so much more than race,” said one sophomore architecture major. “Obviously race still plays a big role. But there are people who identify differently in gender and all sorts of things like that.”
Ironically, the King quote was to the lobby after students complained about another quote. Until 1985, the wall declared the University of Oregon “leader in the quest for the good life for all men.” That was replaced with the King quote after feminists objected to the implication that Oregon only cared about “men.”

Evangelical Leader Jerry Falwell Jr. Endorses Donald Trump for President
WaPo.com:
Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr., the son of the late televangelist, endorsed Donald Trump on Tuesday, giving the Republican front-runner the blessing of one of the evangelical community’s biggest names just days before the Iowa caucuses. The more religious Americans understand and recognize the havoc the Godless Left and Barack Obama wrecked on religious freedom and rights in this country during the last 7 years, the better chance they can make a difference in this upcoming election.
In a statement, Falwell called Trump “a successful executive and entrepreneur, a wonderful father and a man who I believe can lead our country to greatness again.”
Falwell’s move has long been expected since he has showered praise on the billionaire in recent weeks and developed a rapport with him. But the timing of the formal announcement is significant, coming as Trump and Ted Cruz compete intensely in Iowa for the support of social conservatives.
“It is truly an honor to receive Jerry’s endorsement. Not only is he a high-quality person, with a wonderful family, whom I have great respect for — I also consider him a very good friend and his support means so much to me,” Trump said in a statement.

Alberta, Canada's Liberal New Government Bans the Words "Mother" and "Father" in Schools
IWF.org:
It used to be: "Heather has two mommies."RELATED: Alberta lost the most jobs in 2015 since 1980s recession: Statistics Canada
Now, it's: "Heather has two non-gendered and inclusive caregivers."
That's the language the New Democratic Party government in Alberta, Canada, is telling teachers and school administrators to use when adressing the adults with whom students are living. Out: "mother" and "father." In: "parent," "caregiver," "partner," whatever.
And God help you if refer to one of the little rascals as "him" or "her."
Here's the pertinent language from the rainbow-adorned "Guidelines for Best Practices" that the highminded-progressive NDP government issued last week:
School forms, websites, letters, and other communications use non-gendered and inclusive language (e.g., parents/guardians, caregivers, families, partners, “student” or “their” instead of Mr., Ms., Mrs., mother, father, him, her, etc.)."The purpose of the guidelines, according to the text, is to create "learning communities" that "respect diverse sexual orientations, gender identies, and gender expressions."
And that means that the kids, no matter how young or how old, get to pick their own gender and force everyone else in the school to abide by their choice:
Self-identification is the sole measure of an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression....

Barack Obama Wishes All Republicans Could Be More Like John McCain...Who He Obliterated In 2008 Election
Mediaite.com:
In an interview with Politico‘s Glenn Thrush, President Barack Obama weighed in on the current election cycle, offering up fond recollections of his first presidential campaign and his historic win in Iowa, as well as an assessment of the modern Republican party, which he said had drifted so far from the mainstream political dialogue as to become “unrecognizable.”If this doesn't tell you how narcissistic Barry is as well as how stupid he thinks the GOP will forever be, then nothing will.
Recalling his debates with Sen. John McCain during the 2008 general election, the president said:
When I ran against John McCain, John McCain and I had real differences, sharp differences, but John McCain didn’t deny climate science. John McCain didn’t call for banning Muslims from the United States. You know, John McCain was a conservative, but he was well within, you know, the mainstream of not just the Republican Party but within our political dialogue. And that’s where, ultimately, any voter is going to have to pay attention is the degree to which the Republican rhetoric and Republican vision has moved not just to the right but has moved to a place that is unrecognizable.Asked about the GOP debates, the president said he found the whole format “artificial,” and observed that debates were “performance art as opposed to talking about stuff. They’re useful in the sense of seeing how somebody performs.”
He added that “it will be interesting to watch, during the course of this campaign, whether or not Republican voters steer back towards the center.”

New Jersey Mom and 1-Year-Old Son Die of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning While Sitting in Running Car During Blizzard
amNY.com:
A New Jersey woman and her 1-year-old son died, and her 3-year-old daughter was in very critical condition, after their car filled up with carbon monoxide from a snow-filled exhaust pipe, police said on Sunday.RELATED: Carbon Monoxide Questions and Answers
The 23-year-old mother and her children were warming up inside the car as their father was shoveling around it just after 8 p.m. on Saturday night. They were parked only a few blocks away from their Passaic home.
But as the father shoveled, the exhaust pipe was stuffed with snow, and carbon monoxide slowly filled up the inside of the car, police in Passaic said.
When the father went to check on them, he immediately noticed they were unresponsive, police said.
Emergency personnel performed CPR on all three victims, and they were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic. But the mother and her young son didn’t make it.
The 3-year-old girl was in very critical condition on Sunday and transferred to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson.
Police said this tragedy is a reminder to make sure your exhaust pipe is clear of snow or debris when clearing it off or warming it up.
Olympics To Force Female Athletes To Compete Against Men Who 'Think' They're Women
NYTimes.com:
Transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in the Olympics and other international events without undergoing sex reassignment surgery, according to new guidelines adopted by the I.O.C.International Olympic Committee medical officials told The Associated Press on Sunday they changed the policy to adapt to current scientific, social and legal attitudes on transgender issues. The guidelines are designed as recommendations — not rules or regulations — for international sports federations and other bodies to follow and should apply for this year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.“I don’t think many federations have rules on defining eligibility of transgender individuals,” I.O.C. medical director Dr. Richard Budgett said in a telephone interview. “This should give them the confidence and stimulus to put these rules in place.”Under the previous I.O.C. guidelines, approved in 2003, athletes who transitioned from male to female or vice versa were required to have reassignment surgery followed by at least two years of hormone therapy in order to be eligible to compete. Now, surgery will no longer be required, with female-to-male transgender athletes eligible to take part in men’s competitions “without restriction.”
First of all, screw that BS about adapting 'to current scientific, social and
legal attitudes on transgender issues', this new policy has Caitlyn Jenner and Company paws all over it. Secondly, can't help but wonder if it'll be treated as a mere 'coincidence' once these trannies start winning a majority of female sporting events.

Lena Dunham, Pedophile Supporter of Hillary Clinton, Calls Any Criticism of Hillary 'Sexist'
Mediaite.com:
Actress Lena Dunham accused the media of being “rabidly sexist” against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in a Variety interview Sunday.Dunham's not stupid enough to just come out and say it, but this racist, pedophile and sexual assault liar not only thinks Hillary is owed the Presidency, but dammit because she's a white woman, not only should we all bow down, but no one has any right to ever criticize her.
“The way that Hillary Clinton’s been talked about in the media is so gendered and rabidly sexist in every single portrayal,” the comedienne complained.
Dunham said she literally wanted “to make a list that we hand to media outlets that says, ‘these are the words you can’t use when describing a female candidate.’”
Among the banned words: shrill, inaccessible, difficult, frumpy, and plastic. “If we were allowed to talk about male candidates like that, I’d have a fucking field day,” she said. The shrill comments are likely to be difficult for the frumpy star of HBO’s Girls, considering that The New York Times recently reported that Dunham herself was loudly criticizing Clinton at a private industry event.

'Transgender' Actor Robert aka 'Alexis' Arquette Claims Black Actors Will and Jada Pinkett Smith Are Gay
NYDailyNews.com:
Take note Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith: Getting political has its risks.Since trannies are (thanks in part to none other than 1st Black POTUS Barack Obama) the 'New Black', even a blatant lie like this one (which carries with it absolutely zero proof) will be protected by the Godless, white Gay Mafia and their liberal friends in the media. Then too, with Will and Jada Smith out in front on the current #OscarsSoWhite issue, which in turn is passive-aggressively being supported by Hollyweird's powerful white liberal base, it should come as no surprise if Will and Jada take a pass on filing a libel suit against Arquette. It should also be noted that this isn't the first time that a member of the Arquette family has spoken out against a prominent issue concerning Blacks and race.
After the actress declared Monday that she will be boycotting the Oscars after her husband was snubbed, Alexis Arquette took a major swing at the pair for what she alleges is hypocrisy.
The transgender actress and gender-rights activist "outed" the married couple with a Facebook post that argued that Mr. and Mrs. Smith’s comments on race and the Oscars were invalid because they won't ’fess up about their alleged homosexuality.
"When Jada comes out as Gay and her beard husband admits his first marriage ended when she walked in on [him and] his Sugar Daddy [name omitted] ... then I will listen to them," ranted the actress, who has appeared in movies including "Last Exit to Brooklyn" and "Pulp Fiction."
"Will threw a fit on the set of Six degrees of separation [his 1993 film] when he was required by the scene to kiss Anthony Rapp," alleged Arquette, a sister of David and Rosanna. "He persuaded the director to shoot the back of his head in frame. Blocking the non existent lip lock entirely. F--- him. Gays have enemies. They lurk in gilded closets. Outing is healthy. You are either with or against us. You decide. Today."

Billionaire Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Eyeing Possible White House Bid
NPR.com:
A divorced New York businessman billionaire with a mixed political history and knack for controversy and grabbing the spotlight might run for president. Another one.Bloomberg could take away votes from Hillary and Bernie with his money and avid gun control support. But he has hardly any grassroots support and the way he tricked NYers into getting a 3rd term as NYC mayor will always be an albatross on his neck.
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is again weighing a possible independent bid for the White House after seeing an opening in a chaotic and unpredictable 2016 race.
The Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-independent is actively exploring a run, hiring consultants and commissioning a poll last month aimed at seeing whether there is an appetite for a third party candidate, a source familiar with Bloomberg's plans told NPR.
Bloomberg plans to survey the race after next month's New Hampshire primary and is willing to spend up to $1 billion of his own money on such an effort. He has proved he's willing to spend money to win elections. He's spent more than $300 million between his three mayoral runs and his post-mayoral political projects. The $250 million he spent on his mayor races is the most anyone's ever spent on their own elections in U.S. history.

Bill Cosby Gets Ridiculous Defamation Suit Dismissed
CNN.com:
It was a win for Bill Cosby in court on Thursday.
A federal judge in Pennsylvania sided with the disgraced comedian and granted Cosby's motion to dismiss a defamation lawsuit, according to court records.Renita Hill, one of the more than 50 women who have publicly accused Cosby of assault, filed the civil suit in October alleging that the actor and his lawyer defamed Hill in the media, court records show.Judge Arthur J. Schwab dismissed the three claims against Cosby, ruling that the statements "do not support a claim for defamation as defined by Pennsylvania law," according to the ruling.Hill's claims of defamation cite three instances in which Cosby and his team said the accusers needed to be fact-checked.In November 2014, following Hill's public accusation of rape, Cosby and his lawyer told The Washington Post that the women coming forward had "unsubstantiated, fantastical stories."That same day, Cosby declined to respond to the "innuendos" being made about him to Florida Today, stating that "people should fact-check."
She publicly accuses Cosby of rape. He says she's lying and then SHE files a defamation suit?!? GTFOH. Like the man doesn't have right to defend himself??? Good thing the judge here went with common sense and dismissed this ridiculous case.
Sundance Film Festival Lineup Reflects $75.8 Million From George Soros and Other Liberals
NewsBusters.org:
Like Cannes and even, increasingly, the Academy Awards, The Sundance Film Festival isn’t so much a showcase of new movies as an annual mile marker denoting how far elite tastes and preoccupations have wandered from those of the movie-going public.RELATED: Robert Redford Refuses To Be Drawn Into #OscarsSoWhite Debate – Sundance
The 2016 Sundance Film Festival, which runs from today through January 31 in Park City, Utah, is no different. Five of the 16 entries in the “U.S. Drama” category feature gay characters and themes while six of them prominently feature drug and/or alcohol abuse.
Meanwhile, the “U.S. Documentary” category offers films touching on a list of lefty hobby horses, from more LGBT themes to Gun control to climate change to abortion on demand. Over on the “World” side, there’s a drama about a woman sexually attracted to a wolf and documentaries about Mexican prostitutes and the dark underbelly of “competitive endurance tickling.”
Unquestionably, these are the movies that wouldn’t “play in Peoria” in years gone by. That they play in Park reflects the agenda of those who run – and those who fund – the Sundance Festival.
The Sundance Foundation, which puts on the annual Festival, receives millions of dollars each year to push its liberal agenda on film enthusiasts.
In addition to support from individual, businesses, and the government, Sundance is currently funded by 13 foundations. Four of those are top liberal foundations: The Ford Foundation, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Knight Foundation, and – most notably – The Open Society Foundations, run by anti-capitalist billionaire George Soros.
Together, they have given Sundance at least $75.8 million since 2003.

Shock Iowa Poll from CNN: Donald Trump Leads Ted Cruz by 11, Bernie Sanders Leads Hillary Clinton by Eight
HotAir.com:
I’m going to argue that Cruz fans shouldn’t freak out about this poll, but first let me grab a change of underwear.RELATED: Conservative Writers Explain Anti-Trump Manifesto: ‘Terrible Face of America to the World’
Trump leads Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who is in second place in the GOP race, among likely Republican caucus-goers, 37% to 26%. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, is in third at 14%, the only other Republican in double digits. Ben Carson failed to register half of Rubio’s support and is in fourth place at 6%…[L]ikely Republican caucus-goers are more divided when it comes to who would best handle foreign policy, with Trump (27%), Rubio (26%) and Cruz (25%) in a virtual three-way split. On the question of which candidate better represents Republican values, 29% choose Cruz, 28% side with Trump and 15% favor Rubio. Cruz holds an edge as the one who would better handle social issues, however, with 29% to Trump’s 18%, while 12% name Rubio, 10% Carson and 9% former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.Asked which candidate better represents Republican values, immigration heretic Marco Rubio pulls barely half what conservative heretic Donald Trump does. Rubio has a 94 percent rating from Heritage Action. Turn that thought over in your mind a few times.
Time to panic? Well, yes, soon. But not yet. Another bit from CNN:
The sampling is key for both leaders: Only including voters who previously caucused in their party’s most recent competitive caucus, Cruz is neck-and-neck with Trump, with 30% for Cruz to 28% for Trump. Rubio is steady at 16% in that sample.Of Democrats who caucused in 2008, Clinton leads Sanders, 55% to 38%.Essentially the poll’s telling us what we already knew: There are many more Trump fans than Cruz fans among the broader population, including in Iowa, and if Trump can get them to turn out on caucus night he’s going to win. Whether he can get them to turn out is the great unsolved mystery of the primary. Cruz has the best organization in Iowa; Trump’s organization is more of a black box, but some of the glimpses inside haven’t been encouraging. On the other hand, Trumpmania’s bound to bring some people out to caucus who’ve never done it before even if Trump’s ground game is weak. If he’s already within two points of Cruz among people who caucused in 2012, how does he lose once those additional first-time caucusgoers are added?

Charles McCullough III sent a letter to leaders on congressional intelligence committees last week detailing the findings from a review of Clinton's emails, a spokeswoman for the inspector general confirmed to CNN.Two government agencies flagged emails on Clinton's server as containing classified information, the inspector general said, including some on "special access programs," which are a subset of the highest "Top Secret" level of classification, but are under subject to more stringent control rules than even other Top Secret information."Clinton brushed off the report on Wednesday, telling NPR that is was a "leak" designed to harm her in the presidential race."As the State Department has confirmed, I never sent or received any material marked classified, and that hasn't changed in all of these months," she said. "This, seems to me, to be, you know, another effort to inject this into the campaign. It's another leak."She also called the inspector general's letter a "continuation of an inter-agency dispute that has been going on now for some months."

Supreme Court To Review If Obama Immigration Actions Were 'Faithfully Executed'
NPR.com:
The Supreme court has once again stepped into the fire of hot-button political issues. The court said Tuesday it would rule by summer on the legality of President Obama's executive action granting temporary legal status to as many as 4.5 million people who entered the U.S. illegally.RELATED: Great news: nearly half of all aliens left the US last year after their visas expired
Fourteen months ago, Obama, frustrated by Congress' inability to act on immigration reform, issued an order expanding temporary legal status for some adults who entered the U.S. illegally.
The new order granted temporary legal status and work permits to illegal adult immigrants who had been in the U.S. for five years and who have children who are American citizens or lawful permanent residents. In addition, applicants had to register, pass a criminal background check, and prove they had paid their taxes. If they met all these criteria, they would be granted legal status and temporary work permits for three years.
The president said this change in immigration regulations would allow people to "come out of the shadows and get right with the law."
The president's action followed a similar temporary reprieve from deportation that he issued in 2012 for children age 15 and under brought to the U.S. illegally. Court challenges to that order failed.
Although many Republicans objected to the 2012 action for children, opposition was relatively muted. The most recent temporary reprieve for adults, however, infuriated the GOP.
Republicans blasted the president's action as "lawless," and a coalition of 26 states led by Texas challenged the executive action in court, contending that the president had exceeded his authority.
A year ago a federal judge blocked implementation of the new regime and a federal appeals court panel, by a 2-1 vote subsequently upheld the injunction on broader grounds. The Obama administration then asked the Supreme Court to review the case, and on Tuesday the justices said they would hear arguments in April, with a decision expected by late June.
If the court had refused to hear the case, the appeals court ruling would have stood, and the president's program would have been dead in the water.
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder Says Flint Water Crisis Is His ‘Katrina’
Mediaite.com:
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder admitted yesterday that the water crisis in Flint is a failure on his part and did not dispute the accusation that this is his Hurricane Katrina.Snyder should resign. To think, there are reports of people getting killed in Flint, in part, due to his inaction. Then too, the idiot governor refers to this crisis as his 'Katrina', yet unlike a natural disaster, this epic fail could've been prevented. Plus, ask Chris Christie how it feels when you're a Republican mayor who needs Barry to come in and save you.
Snyder sat down for an interview with National Journal‘s Ron Fournier yesterday and took full responsibility. Fournier asked him rather bewilderedly how state officials couldn’t have known about tests that showed led in the water last summer.
Snyder said, ” They showed there was lead in the water but not at a level required to take action.”
He admits that more action should have been taken, pushed by him, though he did say once the state health department confirmed there were issues with the water, they acted quickly.Fournier asked, “But you do see this as a black mark on your leadership and a potential opportunity to turn things around?”
Snyder provided this response:
It’s clearly a negative on what we’ve accomplished since I’ve been governor. And I don’t even describe it as an opportunity I just want to make sure we’re doing whatever we can to deal with the damage and address the people of Flint in a constructive wayHe knows he’s lost a lot of the public’s trust, and even told Fournier he may consider releasing all his emails on the Flint water crisis.
Plenty of people in and outside of Flint are calling for his resignation. Snyder said in response, “If you’re in Flint and you’re affected by it I can see a wide range of opinions on lots of things.”

NYT’s Nicholas Kristof: Time For Liberals To Face Some Uncomfortable Facts About Guns
HotAir.com:
Has someone tampered with the water supply at the New York Times? In the past six days, its featured columnists have penned not one but two essays urging readers to reconsider the progressives’ march on gun control and the Obama administration’s big public-relations push as well. Neither one carry Ross Douthat or even David Brooks bylines, either. Yesterday, Nicholas Kristof explained a few “inconvenient gun facts” to fellow liberals, and underscored why voters consider their ranting to be nothing but demagoguery:
We liberals are sometimes glib about equating guns and danger. In fact, it’s complicated: The number of guns in America has increased by more than 50 percent since 1993, and in that same period the gun homicide rate in the United States has dropped by half. Then there are the policies that liberals fought for, starting with the assault weapons ban. A 113-page study found no clear indication that it reduced shooting deaths for the 10 years it was in effect. That’s because the ban was poorly drafted, and because even before the ban, assault weapons accounted for only 2 percent of guns used in crimes.Move on to open-carry and conceal-carry laws: With some 13 million Americans now licensed to pack a concealed gun, many liberals expected gun battles to be erupting all around us. In fact, the most rigorous analysis suggests that all these gun permits caused neither a drop in crime (as conservatives had predicted) nor a spike in killings (as liberals had expected). Liberals were closer to the truth, for the increase in carrying loaded guns does appear to have led to more aggravated assaults with guns, but the fears were overblown.Kristof then goes to the question of Congressional resistance to gun-control regulation. Progressives blame the NRA for frightening politicians into ignoring polls showing broad support for universal background checks, but Kristof says they have no one to blame but themselves:So why does nothing get done? One reason is that liberals often inadvertently antagonize gun owners and empower the National Rifle Association by coming across as supercilious, condescending and spectacularly uninformed about the guns they propose to regulate. A classic of gun ignorance: New York passed a law three years ago banning gun magazines holding more than seven bullets — without realizing that for most guns there is no such thing as a magazine for seven bullets or less. And every time liberals speak blithely about banning guns, they boost the N.R.A. Let’s also banish the term “gun control”: the better expression is “gun safety.”The problem isn’t the nomenclature — it’s the dishonesty in the attacks. Kristof does a pretty good job of explaining how progressives get the facts wrong, but he misses how they got the politics wrong. After the Newtown shooting, progressives demanded a renewed “assault weapons” ban as well as insane magazine restrictions, some of which passed in states like New York and Colorado. Then when those didn’t move in Congress, progressives then pretended that all they requested was expanded background checks, but they had alienated everyone that might have worked with them on that issue long before then.
Barack Obama's Job Gains Have Gone To The Least Educated, And Lowest Paid Workers
ZeroHedge.com:
One of the recurring themes in Obama's final State of the Union address was describing the strength of the economic recovery as witnessed by the number of job gains over the past 6 (if not exactly 7) years, clearly a purely quantitative metric. There was no discussion of the qualitative component of these job gains for one simple reason: as we have explained for years, the bulk of new labor has gone to undereducated, minimum wage (and often part-time) workers.
We have dubbed this the "waiter and bartender" recovery for a reason that becomes immediately clear when looking at the chart below.
We have also gotten tired of reiterating all of this (we do so every month when the BLS released its latest jobs data that just happens to lack the biggest missing piece in the Fed's "recovery" - wage growth).
So today we give the podium to the ECRI's Lakshman Achuthan who explains it so well even a US president would get it.RELATED: The Short-Term President
The sustained decline in the official jobless rate – now near the Fed’s estimate of “full employment” – is a misleading indicator of labor market health.
Indeed, the stagnation in nominal wage growth is consistent with the weakness in the employment/population (E/P) ratio. After dropping to three-decade lows in the wake of the Great Recession, the E/P ratio has barely improved since the fall of 2013, reversing only a quarter of its decline from its pre-recession highs. Furthermore – as a breakdown of the E/P ratio by education level shows – even this modest improvement is illusory.
Since 2011, when the E/P ratio for those with less than a high school diploma bottomed, that metric has regained almost two-thirds of its recessionary losses (orange line in chart). But the E/P ratio for high school or college graduates – i.e., eight out of nine American adults – has not recovered any of its recessionary losses, and has barely budged in four years (purple line).
This data underscores how the jobs recovery has been spearheaded by cheap labor, with job gains going disproportionately to the least educated — and lowest-paid — workers, many of whom have to work multiple jobs to make ends meets.
This is scarcely supportive of Janet Yellen’s description of a “much healthier” consumer in justifying the Fed rate hike.

Bill Maher: If Hollywood’s So Liberal, Why’s There ‘Prejudice Against Nominating Black People’?
Mediaite.com:
After the Oscar nominations were announced this week, a lot of people noticed something missing: any people of color, like Will Smith for Concussion, Michael B. Jordan or director Ryan Coogler for Creed, or pretty much anything for Straight Outta Compton (which only received a Best Original Screenplay nod).
Bill Maher brought up a viewer question on the subject during the Overtime segment of his show last night. John Krasinski said the bigger issue here is the industry at large and who gets the ability to direct and act in big movies.
Maher found it a “strange phenomenon” that “the most liberal place in the world” has an issue with racial diversity in the award nominating process. He joked that “if you have AIDS or you’re a slave, you’re always gonna win the Oscar.”
He asked of Hollywood, “Why, if they’re so liberal, do they have this prejudice against nominating black people? You’d think they would bend over backwards to nominate the black people.”While I know that some far-Right conservatives (like that idiot Larry Elder) believe that racism in its entirety no longer exists, of course it still does. I mean, of course, there's something definitively wrong when for the 2nd year in a row the Oscars doesn't nominate a single person of color for an award (personally, I thought for sure Benecio del Toro would get a supporting nom for his excellent role in Sicario). But speaking directly to Maher's point, while white, liberal Hollywood continues to pretend to care about the blacks, they're all pretty much phony. As I've always said and believed, white liberals only care about Blacks in America when it comes to getting their morally-bankrupt, Godless agenda passed, i.e. keeping them dependent, blaming all the ills in the Black community on Republicans and/or racism and making sure they continue to vote Democrat. Because whether it's the gays and now the trannies, faux-global warming, abortion or illegal immigration, you can always count on using the civil rights era without anyone getting pissed as well as a good, bamboozled Black liberal to kiss massah's ass and toe the party line. Of course, I could be wrong and we'll see some prominent white, liberal actors get upset about #OscarsSoWhite, but none will because they simply don't care.

Ted Cruz Offers Apology to New Yorkers… ‘Who Have Been Let Down by Liberal Politicians’
Mediaite.com:
After his repeated swipes on “New York values,” Ted Cruz yesterday offered an apology to New Yorkers… “who have been let down by liberal politicians.”
Yes, Cruz has been criticized by everyone from Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton for going after the culture of New York, but in comments to reporters yesterday, Cruz stood firm and made his point by bringing up financial burdens being put on New Yorkers, along with social conservatives being told they’re not welcome in the state.
He apologized to “millions of unborn children” in New York, black children “Mayor de Blasio tried to throw out of their charter schools,” people “ridiculed and insulted by the New York media,” and the law enforcement officers who feel their city’s mayor “stands with the looters and criminals rather than the brave men and women of the law.”
Essentially, it was a “sorry not sorry” moment.Good for Ted Cruz. A social conservative should never apologize for being true to their principles.

Far-Left New York City Journalists Horrified By Ted Cruz’s "New York Values" Jab
Mediaite.com:
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz made a jab against Donald Trump during Thursday night’s debate, saying the Manhattan businessman was ill-suited to be the Republican nominee because he still espoused “New York values.”
That attack provoked angry responses from New York’s journalism and media elites, liberal and conservative alike. There were literally too many tweets from that night to cite here, but Rolling Stone‘s Matt Taibbi summed up New York journalists’ thoughts about Cruz’s rather succinctly.
I’m sure most New Yorkers laughed off or brushed off Cruz’s comments. This column isn’t for you. But to the New Yorkers– especially those in the media– who are legitimately angry at Cruz for his comments: get over yourselves.
First lets nail down what Cruz actually said that got everyone so hot and bothered:
And listen, there are many, many wonderful, wonderful working men and women in the state of New York. But everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro- gay-marriage, focus around money and the media.
…
You know, the concept of New York values is not that complicated to figure out. Not too many years ago, Donald did a long interview with Tim Russert. And in that interview, he explained his views on a whole host of issues that were very, very different from the views he’s describing now. And his explanation — he said, “look, I’m from New York, that’s what we believe in New York. Those aren’t Iowa values, but this is what we believe in New York.” And so that was his explanation.
Thanks mostly to a uber-liberal governor (Andrew Cuomo) and a uber-liberal mayor with a lesbian wife who happens to be in charge of its largest and most popular city (Bill de Blasio), NY/NYC has indeed become a Godless, social liberal cesspool--or in basic terms, the East coast's version of California/San Francisco...and that's what Ted Cruz was referring too, not much else.First of all– and most importantly– note that Cruz points out that Trump himself said once he had different “values” than Iowans simply because he was from New York City. That alone ought to make the attack against Trump a legitimate one; the notion that all New Yorkers think the same is a vast oversimplification, but that is how Trump framed the issue sixteen years ago.I guess I can frame it another way. Not a lot of conservatives come out of Manhattan. I’m just saying.
As I read it, the “New York values” line wasn’t intended as an attack on New York City, or even New Yorkers themselves. Instead, he was saying that Republicans (and South Carolinians and Iowans) espouse certain values, and New Yorkers tend not to. He certainly implied “New York values” were a bad thing… but only within the context of the nomination for a right-wing party. I expect Democrats are equally wary of “Birmingham values.”
The notion that it’s somehow outrageous to say New York has different values than the rest of the country is, to put it bluntly, stupid. No less than the public editor of The New York Times recognized this fact a decade ago, when Daniel Okrent said in a column that “of course” the paper had a liberal bias. He argued that the bias didn’t derive from any vast left wing conspiracy or intentional malice. Instead, he noted that the paper’s editors, reporters, and columnists were all New Yorkers, and they simply have a different “value system” than the rest of the country.[On gay marriage], Times editors have failed to provide the three-dimensional perspective balanced journalism requires. This has not occurred because of a management fiat, but because getting outside of one’s value system takes a great deal of self-questioning.

Ann Coulter Trashes Nikki Haley: She’s a ‘Bimbo,’ ‘Accidentally Elected Because She’s Pretty’
Mediaite.com:
If you thought Ann Coulter already went as far as she was going to with her comments about Nikki Haley, oh man were you wrong.
Coulter spoke with Fox News Radio host John Gibson earlier today and, after she went off on the GOP establishment and sang Donald Trump‘s praises, she again said it was amazing that the official Republican State of the Union response attacked Trump on immigration, the one issue she says he’s really good on.
And then she said, of Haley, “I think she’s a bimbo.”
Gibson objected to the language, and Coulter proceeded to complain about PC policing, saying, “I’m saying something I think is true, I think she is a bimbo!”
Coulter elaborated, “She is a woman who was accidentally elected because she’s pretty and isn’t very bright, can we say that?”She said there’s something wrong with South Carolina if Haley and Lindsey Graham are being put into positions of power, predicting Haley doesn’t have another term in office waiting for her.
John McCain: White House Will Stop 'At Nothing to Preserve' Iran Nuclear Deal
Newsmax.com:
Sen. John McCain hammered the Obama administration Wednesday for praising Iran's "graciousness" after it released the 10 Navy sailors captured on Tuesday — accusing the White House of stopping "at nothing to preserve" the Iran nuclear deal.
Here's what the Arizona Republican and 2008 presidential candidate said on Twitter:

Obama Admin praising #Iran’s graciousness in detaining US sailors shows it'll stop at nothing to preserve #IranDeal:Secretary of State John Kerry lauded Tehran for ending the dispute "peacefully and efficiently."
The Navy soldiers, nine men and a woman, were captured Tuesday by member of Iran Revolutionary Guard after their two boats drifted into the Persian Gulf off Farsi Island.
Republicans bashed Tehran for the move — coming hours before President Barack Obama delivered his final State of the Union address — as an example of Iran exercising renewed aggression as the implementation of the nuclear deal nears.

Megyn Kelly Grills Debbie Wasserman Schultz: 'Why'd You Bring Up Nikki Haley's Gender?'
Mediaite.com:
Late last night after the State of the Union, Fox’s Megyn Kelly confronted DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz for her swipes at Nikki Haley (something the DNC chair and certain conservative pundits now have in common).Yeah, right. The GOP has a 'diversity problm' and meanwhile the 3 candidates for Democrat nominee for President are all old white people.
Haley was chosen to deliver the Republican response to the State of the Union last night, and hours before the main event got started, Wasserman Schultz said on a conference call, “It’s pretty clear that Nikki Haley is being chosen because the Republican Party has a diversity problem.”
Well, late last night Kelly confronted Wasserman Schultz over that and asked, “As a woman, don’t you think it’s diminishing to say they put her up there for diversity purposes?”
Wasserman Schultz defended herself by citing how the GOP itself admitted a few years ago they had to do more to broaden the tent. She even said that Haley isn’t very popular in her state of South Carolina, so it’s hard to imagine why else she would have been invited.Kelly suggested maybe that was because she’s very savvy and “presents well,” asking Wasserman Schultz how she would feel if people were to say Hillary Clinton only became the Democratic nominee because of her gender. She said, “You know you’re on shaky ground.”
