Trump 'seems to want' mass shootings to happen in response to the president's address this week on two recent mass shootings. A suspect opened fire Saturday in a crowded Walmart in El Paso, Texas, killing 22. Later, in the early hours of Sunday, a second suspect killed nine people in downtown Dayton, Ohio.
Said the MSNBC host (who ironically boosted the 2016 Trump campaign) and proven 'psycho':
"If he doesn’t unequivocally call it off and say, this is wrong and we stand together against this and we are doing this," Brzezinski said, "this and this to help fight hate crimes — I mean, this is a president who seems to want these things to happen."
She added, "How else can this be explained? If he doesn't call it off."
Her co-host, Joe Scarborough, added, "As you know, he’s inciting hatred now and he’s been inciting hatred up until yesterday because he sees that as a good political strategy."
It has come to this then, has it? My, how far we have come since 2015. Back then, Brzezinski and Scarborough could not get enough of candidate Trump. They even used their show to boost his primary campaign. Indeed, except for Fox News’ Sean Hannity, no one did more to encourage Trump's candidacy. Scarborough and Brzezinski sidled up to the businessman. They gifted him with cloying, ultra-friendly telephone and in-person interviews. That is to say nothing of their day-to-day commentary, which was overwhelmingly favorable. They gave Trump more airtime than any of the other GOP candidates.
Morning Joe's pro-Trump bias extended beyond programming hours, as I have noted elsewhere. Scarborough bragged about phoning Trump to offer debate advice.
Scarborough also penned an op-ed calling anti-Trump conservatives “arrogant and unmoored.” Trump himself even joked once that Morning Joe's hosts made him sound like a "legendary figure."
Also, contra Brzezinski, Trump did condemn white nationalism Monday. He also suggested possible solutions to prevent future shootings.
"We must make sure that those judged to pose a grave risk to public safety do not have access to firearms and that if they do, those firearms can be taken through rapid due process," the president said. "That is why I have called for red flag laws, also known as extreme risk protection orders," he added. "In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy."
