President Donald Trump: Person of the Week

Claim to Fame: 45th President of the United States:

Why He's the Person of the Week: for turning his back on his own fractured, do-nothing party, embracing bi-partisanship and putting Americans first by striking a huge legislative deal that suspended the debt ceiling for 3 months and provided $15.3 billion in much-needed disaster aid to victims of Hurricane Harvey. The House voted overwhelmingly on Friday to send the deal to President Donald Trump for him to sign, overcoming conservative objections to linking the emergency legislation to a temporary increase in America's borrowing authority.

The 316-90 vote would refill depleted emergency accounts as Florida braces for the impact of Hurricane Irma this weekend and Texas picks up the pieces after the devastation of the Harvey storm. All 90 "no" votes were cast by Republicans. The deal, struck with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, was passed by the Senate the previous day by a vote of 80-17.

Trump's deal allows Congress to get rid of end-of-September deadlines to raise the debt limit and avoid risking default on U.S. debt, and funds the government and avoids a shutdown. And while there's concerns on both sides of the aisle on what happens when the deal ends Dec. 8, for 3 months anyway, it's a huge win for Trump.
